Type 07 Destroyer Anshan Class
The first Chinese Navy destroyer unit consisted of four WWII veteran Gnevny class destroyers purchased from the Soviet Union in 1953 at the price of 17 tons of gold each. The Chinese Navy's code-named Type 07 destroyers, also known as Type 6607, and the NATO code-named Anshan-class, were named "Anshan", "Fushun", "Changchun" and "Taiyuan" after northern Chinese cities. The four Type 07 destroyers were all assigned to the North Sea Fleet, with hull numbers 101 "Anshan", 102 "Fushun", 103 "Changchun" and 104 "Taiyuan".
The ships were originally a part of the Project 7 class destroyers of the Soviet Pacific Fleet and were initially armed with four 130mm B13 Pattern 1936 guns in four turrets, two 76.2mm/55 34-K guns in two turrets, four 37 mm/63 70-K guns in single-mounts, one Oerlikon 20mm/70 autocannon, and two triple 533mm torpedo tubes as well as 60-95 mines and 25 depth charges. Upon commissioning they had a full load displacement of 2581 tons, a maximum speed of 34 knots, and an endurance of 2,300 nautical miles. They served as normal destroyers until the early 1970’s, when all ships were modernized by replacing the two triple torpedo tubes with two twin HY-2 surface-to-surface missile launchers, the four Soviet single-mount 37mm/63 70-K guns being replaced with four Chinese twin-mount 37mm/63 Type 61 guns, and removal of the 76mm guns and 20mm autocannon.
The ships electronics and sensors consisted of Mina fire-control system, Gius-2 (NATO code: "Cross Bird") air-search radar, "High Sieve" air/surface-search radar, "Square Tie" surface-search radar, "Ball End" and "Fin Curve" navigational radar, and Pegas-2M active sonar.
All Anshan class destroyers were withdrawn from active service by the 1990’s, and remain today as training ships and museum exhibits.
